AMD recently revealed details on several new products that are set to launch soon, including a new Radeon RX 7600 XT GPU, Ryzen 8000 APUs, and four additional Ryzen 5000 series desktop CPUs. In this post, we’ll break down the key specs, pricing, and launch timing for these new AMD offerings.
RX 7600 XT 16GB GPU
The star of AMD’s upcoming product lineup is the Radeon RX 7600 XT 16GB graphics card. This is an enhanced version of the existing RX 7600 XT GPU that was released last year. The key upgrades include:
- 16GB of GDDR6 memory – Double the VRAM of the original 8GB RX 7600 XT
- 10% higher base clock – Improved from 2039 MHz to 2250 MHz
- 4% higher boost clock – Increased from 2491 MHz to 2593 MHz
These clock speed and memory upgrades should deliver around 10-15% better gaming performance compared to the standard RX 7600 XT.
AMD is positioning the souped up RX 7600 XT 16GB to compete directly with Nvidia’s newly announced RTX 4070 GPU. It matches the RTX 4070 in memory capacity and has similar expected pricing.
Launch Date: January 10, 2023
Price: $399 USD
Overall, the RX 7600 XT 16GB seems like it will be a very capable 1080p and 1440p gaming GPU. The extra VRAM will help with future proofing, and it should have no issues running modern games maxed out at 1080p. At 1440p, some compromises may need to be made in graphic settings in demanding titles. But overall, it looks to be a strong value option in the mid-range GPU market.
Ryzen 8000 Series APUs
On the CPU side of things, AMD revealed initial details on their upcoming Ryzen 8000 platform. The Ryzen 8000 processors will be based on AMD’s new Zen 4 architecture and built on TSMC’s cutting edge 3nm manufacturing process.
The first Ryzen 8000 chips coming are APUs (accelerated processing units) featuring integrated RDNA 3 graphics. These chips are designed for thin and light notebooks and portable PCs.
Specific models announced include:
- Ryzen 9 8949P
- Ryzen 7 8749P
- Ryzen 5 8559P
Key specs and capabilities of the Ryzen 8000 APUs include:
- Up to 16 Zen 4 cores
- RDNA 3 integrated graphics
- PCIe Gen 5.0 support
- DDR5 and LPDDR5 memory support
AMD is touting big performance gains for both the CPU and iGPU components of these chips. They claim the Ryzen 9 8949P will offer up to 40% faster processing than the Ryzen 7 6800U while using much less power.
The RDNA 3 graphics are also expected to be approximately 50% faster than the current RDNA 2-based graphics in the 6000 series APUs.
Launch Date: March 2023
Pricing for the new Ryzen 8000 APUs has not yet been revealed. But they should provide a nice performance bump for thin and light consumer laptops later this year.
Four New Ryzen 5000 Series Desktop CPUs
Lastly, AMD also announced four new CPUs for the AM4 platform to complement their existing Ryzen 5000 family:
Ryzen 9 5900X3D
- 12 cores, 24 threads
- Up to 5.7 GHz boost
- 105W TDP
- 96MB of L3 cache (including 64MB 3D V-Cache)
Ryzen 7 5800X3D
- 8 cores, 16 threads
- Up to 4.75 GHz boost
- 105W TDP
- 64MB of L3 cache (3D V-Cache)
Ryzen 5 7600X
- 6 cores, 12 threads
- Up to 5.3 GHz boost
- 65W TDP
Ryzen 5 7500
- 6 cores, 12 threads
- Up to 5.1 GHz boost
- 65W TDP
The Ryzen 9 and Ryzen 7 variants feature AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology which provides a large L3 cache stacked vertically over the CPU die for improved gaming performance.
AMD claims the new Ryzen 9 5900X3D will offer up to 11% faster gaming performance than the Core i9-13900K in 1080p gaming. So it will likely be the new fastest gaming CPU on the market.
The Ryzen 5 options help fill out the mainstream desktop CPU lineup with some new cost-effective six core options.
Launch Date: April 6, 2023
Pricing:
- Ryzen 9 5900X3D – $399
- Ryzen 7 5800X3D – $349
- Ryzen 5 7600X – $249
- Ryzen 5 7500 – $199
Conclusion
AMD has revealed a strong lineup of new Ryzen desktop chips, APUs, and GPUs that are set to launch in the coming months. The enhanced RX 7600 XT 16GB graphics card and high-end Ryzen 9 5900X3D processor look particularly compelling for gamers.
While their individual performance remains to be tested, on paper these products seem very competitive with rival offerings from Intel and Nvidia. AMD continues to push the envelope with their CPU, GPU, and APU architectures, giving consumers more choice.
Those looking to build or upgrade a high-end gaming PC may want to wait for reviews on the 5900X3D and 7600 XT 16GB before pulling the trigger. But overall AMD is kicking off 2023 with impressive tech across the board.
